Factors that affect the ranking of your website
The factors that affect the SEO ranking of a website in google search are over 200 listed. SEO development is a separate service as most of the above techniques need to be implemented on a monthly basis by skilled technicians. From the website administrators, the SEO development techniques that can be applied are listed in 13 and we present them below:
1. Age Domain
It has been observed that those domains purchased more recently provide less credibility in search engines. Older sites are considered more trustworthy as the fact that they have been active for so long indicates that they were not created for some kind of scam or temporary gain.
2. Security certificate (SSL)
: As of January 2017, Google Chrome, Firefox and other browsers display messages in the URL bar for sites that are not secure and give back information to the server (e.g. contact forms). The process of obtaining an SSL certificate involves a series of actions in which the details of the administrator of the site where the domain ends up are declared. In more expensive SSLs there is also a certification of the company (EV SSL).
3. Keywords in URLs
A URL that includes the basic search words is more friendly than a code. Greek words written in Latin characters , phonetically as they sound and not in full character mapping, are read by Google and affect the ranking. It is not recommended to use more than words in the URL. The optimum is 1-3.
4. Key words in the page titles
Including keywords in the title of each page is an important factor that shows Google the topic of an article. There should be no special characters in the titles (e.g. !_”/’+*\,?). The characters should be 70 in at least 3 words.
5. Keywords in meta descriptions
The meta description is a brief description of the page and appears below the title in the search results. That’s why they are a very important part in the development of your website’s SEO. The descriptions should be short, up to 160 characters. In the descriptions each keyword can be placed up to 2 times (one in each sentence) and not consecutively.
6. The total size of the text should not exceed 2400 words
Google needs content and considers a site with great analytics more relevant than one that just mentions keywords. This does not mean that the text development should be 2400 words, the whole page should be up to 2400 words. Anything that is not code but text is included in the 2400 word limit.
7. The frequency and position of each keyword in the text.
The optimal way is to include the keyword in the very first sentence, with sufficient frequency in the first 100 words of the text and in the epilogue. A satisfactory frequency is as much as is needed to make it clear that the text deals with the specific keywords without pressuring the reader or causing discomfort through constant repetition.
8. The importance of the text in relation to the subject
The importance of the text in relation to the topic it deals with: important texts become widely known as they offer benefits and advantages to readers. This generates more backlinks to the site and more activity through Social Media that is recorded by Google.
9. The page numbers of the website
A website that has few pages will not have a good ranking in google as opposed to one that has 50 pages of which 20% of them deal with the same topic. The content of the second is considered more relevant. In large websites and eshops where 20% cannot be maintained, the importance of subpages should be adjusted through the sitemap.xml so that the number of relevant subpages is greater than that of the competition.
10. Avoid copying content
Avoid copying text from other websites as this will negatively affect your website’s ranking in search results. It applies to meta titles, footer titles as well as to the main text of articles.
11. Image optimization
A page that has large images of several KB or even MB are slow to download in the browser-browser on both desktop and mobile. The loading speed of a web page is a ranking criterion so the photos should be at the limit that their pixels are not damaged by downloading their size in KB to the maximum. jpg and webp are suitable photo file types, while in some cases gif is also a possible choice depending on the image.
12. The number and quality of referrals to your website
Backlink practically means when another website contains a link to your website on one of its pages. It is a very determining factor how popular the content on your website is. The more content is used in quality citations the more trustworthy the website is considered to be. Quality links are links from websites that have a high ranking in the quality index and have a high page rank. Sites with low scores and suspicious history can damage your rankings. For checking backlinks there are dozens of online checking tools with a monthly subscription. Alternatively, one can track all backlinks from the Webmaster tools provided by Google. The older a citation is, the more useful it is for the website. Recent citations are usually not as reliable.
13. Friendliness and responsiveness (Rensponsive) on mobile devices
Another important criterion for a good ranking is responsive design. Also, it is important that the content that will be entered by administrators has responsive specifications and does not contain material that remains in locked dimensions (e.g. tables, iframe). If such content is to be included it is preferable to have dimensions specified in percentages (%) rather than pixels, otherwise in such a case it is recommended to use an image (JPG).
